Day 01 : Day 1: Arrival Day in Islamabad
Location: Islamabad
Altitude: 666m
Arrive in Islamabad, the capital city of Pakistan. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel where you will rest and prepare for your upcoming journey. This day will be spent adjusting to the time zone and preparing for the next steps in your adventure.
Day 02 : Day 2: Rest & Preparation Day, Islamabad
Location: Islamabad
Altitude: 666m
This day is dedicated to rest and preparation. You will take care of any remaining paperwork and finalize any necessary equipment or gear for the expedition. You can explore the city or relax in your hotel, ensuring that you are fully prepared for the journey ahead.
Day 03 : Day 3: Islamabad to Skardu (Flight: 45 minutes)
Location: Skardu
Altitude: 2,230m
After breakfast, you will board your flight to Skardu, a city in the Gilgit-Baltistan region. Skardu is the main starting point for many mountaineering expeditions in the Karakoram range. The flight is scenic, offering great views of the mountains as you approach. On arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel to relax and acclimatize to the altitude.
Day 04 : Day 4: Sightseeing & Preparation Day, Skardu
Location: Skardu
Altitude: 2,230m
Today will be spent in Skardu for sightseeing and further preparation. You will visit local sites and get familiar with the surroundings, and make any final arrangements for the trek. This is also an important acclimatization day to adjust to the altitude before the trek begins.
Day 05 : Day 5: Skardu to Askoli (7-hour drive)
Location: Askoli
Altitude: 3,000m
In the morning, depart from Skardu to Askoli. The drive takes about 7 hours, passing through picturesque landscapes and villages. Askoli is the last settlement before you begin the trekking portion of the expedition. Upon arrival, you will set up camp and rest for the night.
Day 06 : Day 6: Askoli to Johla (4-hour walk)
Location: Johla
Altitude: 3,100m
This is the first day of trekking. After breakfast, you will start your hike towards Johla, a beautiful village located on the way to the base camp. The trek is moderate, and you will pass through forests and streams, setting up camp in Johla for an overnight stay.
Day 07 : Day 7: Trek to Paiju (6-hour walk)
Location: Paiju
Altitude: 3,380m
Today’s trek is longer, taking about 6 hours to reach Paiju. The trail ascends through rocky terrain, offering incredible views of the surrounding peaks. Upon arrival, you’ll have time to rest, prepare for the next leg of the journey, and enjoy the stunning natural beauty of the area.
Day 08 : Day 8: Trek to Khoburtse (7-hour walk)
Location: Khoburtse
Altitude: 3,760m
Today, the trek will take approximately 7 hours as you move towards Khoburtse, a camping site at the base of the mountains. The trek becomes more challenging as the terrain steepens, but the rewards of breathtaking views and an unforgettable experience make it all worthwhile.
Day 09 : Day 9: Trek to Urdukas (4-hour walk)
Location: Urdukas
Altitude: 4,130m
This day’s trek will take about 4 hours. You will hike to Urdukas, a stunning area surrounded by glaciers and jagged peaks. The camp will be set up near the glacier, where you’ll rest and acclimatize. The area offers a spectacular view of the surrounding Karakoram mountains.
Day 10 : Day 10: Acclimatization Day at Urdukas
Location: Urdukas
Altitude: 4,130m
Today will be spent in Urdukas to acclimatize further to the altitude. You will take short hikes around the camp area to help your body adjust and ensure that you are physically prepared for the more strenuous part of the expedition ahead.
Day 11 : Day 11: Trek to Goro II (7-hour walk)
Location: Goro II
Altitude: 4,250m
The trek to Goro II takes about 7 hours. This day’s journey will bring you closer to the base of the glaciers and prepare you for the more technical terrain. The rugged beauty of the landscape will inspire awe as you move forward towards your goal.
Day 12 : Day 12: Trek to Concordia (5-hour walk)
Location: Concordia
Altitude: 4,600m
The trek to Concordia is another important milestone in the journey. After about 5 hours of walking, you will reach Concordia, which is known for being the junction of several glaciers. It offers one of the most spectacular views in the Karakoram Range, including K2, Broad Peak, and Gasherbrum I.
Day 13 : Day 13: Trek to Gasherbrum Base Camp (4-hour walk)
Location: Gasherbrum Base Camp
Altitude: 5,000m
Today’s trek will bring you to the base camp of Gasherbrum I. It’s a relatively short 4-hour walk, but this is the beginning of the most challenging part of the expedition. At base camp, you’ll have the opportunity to rest and prepare for the upcoming ascent.
Day 14 : Days 14-42: Climbing and Acclimatizing Period
Location: Gasherbrum I
Altitude: 5,000m
This phase is dedicated to acclimatization and climbing. You will spend several days working on your physical conditioning, climbing higher altitudes, and familiarizing yourself with the technical challenges of the mountain. The goal during this period is to safely reach higher camps and eventually summit Gasherbrum I.
Day 15 : Day 43: Trek Back to Khoburtse (7-hour walk)
Location: Khoburtse
Altitude: 3,560m
After your summit attempt, you will begin your return journey. The trek back to Khoburtse is 7 hours, descending through rocky terrain and glaciers. This will be a challenging, but rewarding, part of the expedition.
Day 16 : Day 44: Trek Back to Paiju (6-hour walk)
Location: Paiju
Altitude: 3,380m
From Khoburtse, you will trek back to Paiju in about 6 hours. The descent is easier, but still requires caution as you pass through steep sections.
Day 17 : Day 45: Trek Back to Johla (7-hour walk)
Location: Johla
Altitude: 3,170m
This trek takes you back to Johla, with an estimated 7-hour walk. Along the way, you’ll pass familiar scenery, but it will take on a different perspective as you make your way back.
Day 18 : Day 46: Trek Back to Askoli (4-hour walk)
Location: Askoli
Altitude: 3,050m
The trek to Askoli from Johla is relatively short, taking about 4 hours. You will re-enter the village, marking the completion of the trekking portion of the expedition.
Day 19 : Day 47: Drive Back to Skardu via Shigar Valley (7-hour drive)
Location: Skardu
Altitude: 2,230m
You will drive back to Skardu, passing through the scenic Shigar Valley. The drive takes about 7 hours, and you will return to Skardu for a well-deserved rest.
Day 20 : Day 48: Fly Back to Islamabad
Location: Islamabad
Altitude: 666m
Take a scenic flight back to Islamabad, where you will arrive and check into your hotel for some relaxation.
Day 21 : Day 49: Contingency Day in Islamabad
Location: Islamabad
Altitude: 666m
This is a contingency day to account for any unexpected delays or challenges during the expedition. You will spend the day relaxing or exploring Islamabad if everything goes according to plan.
Day 22 : Day 50: Departure Day – Fly Back Home
Location: Islamabad
Altitude: 666m
On the final day of the expedition, you will depart from Islamabad and fly back home, completing your Gasherbrum I expedition.
